Zoning Out: My Comfort Zone Exodus!

Posted by Jane McLeod on Sep 7, 2016 8:00:00 AM

As I write this blog, I am celebrating my 55th birthday. Yes, I am officially the speed limit. My thoughts on that are so very positive. Being the speed limit means I am living life to it's fullest. I cannot believe it has taken me this long to discover many things about myself, but better late than never. One thing I want to share with you is that moving out of your comfort zone, to try new things and to make exciting discoveries about yourself, is the best thing you will ever do!

I have tried many new things over the past few years, and my closest friends will tell you that I usually drag them along too! Whether it is stand up paddleboarding, walking a half marathon, kayaking lessons, or leaving my beloved hospital behind to start a business in other people's hospitals - my friends and colleagues know that moving outside my comfort zone and experimenting with new adventures is bound to occur at any time.

What's Holding You Back?

When I reflect on trying something new, or moving away from what makes me feel secure and comfortable, I find that what usually precedes the movement is a discussion, or a thought simply stating,"What If?"

What would it be like to try something new? Can I do it? (Of course!)

As with every birthday, this one came with some self evaluation and reflection about myself, and where I am going. With a life as a road warrior now, I am always trying to squeeze more life into my days at home. One thing I knew I would love to give up is the hours I spend in the hairdresser chair of my local salon. It takes hours to cover the gray, something I have been doing since my 30th birthday. I love my stylist, but not as much as my grandchildren and husband! I decided it was time to shed that habit and allow my natural, silver hair to show. (I have decided it is silver, gray is a boring color).
